A wet and windy weekend in Anglesey might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but for me it was absolute bliss.
I found this gorgeous little cottage via AirB&B – a tiny little converted outbuilding in the back garden of owner Rosie. A stove to cuddle up in front of, and a mezzanine with a big comfy bed – perfect for listening to the rain batter through the night.

Coincidentally it was just up the road from Halen Mon (salt shopping was our first stop) and Hootons Farm Shop which sorted us out a nice cooked breakfast.
I’d read only good things about The Marram Grass so that was our first evening meal on the island. When you pull into the car park of a caravan site, you’d be excused for being a bit confused, but no, you’re in the right place! The small venue has been done really well and feels cosy with lots of small design details. Local, seasonal and beautiful is how is describe the food.

So pretty – everything about this orange cake was perfect.
The following night we headed over to The Oyster Catcher. We’ve been a couple of times before, and love the ethos and the huf haus venue, but food was really slow coming out and my starter so disappointing.
The Oyster Catcher really is a stunning building.
The partridge and pear pate should have been full of flavour, but unfortunately there was none at all. I could have cried…
Although we waited an age, this plaice was delicious. Delicate fish with lemony butter and prawns.

Other than the pate, North Wales really is my happy place. We got soaked at South Stack (where once again we were too early to see puffins), we got soaked up Snowdon, but still I came away smiling.
This ice cream man at the South Stack got the award for most optimistic person in Wales that day!
It was *bracing* up Snowdon! God bless the inventor of waterproofs- this Craghopper coat can take anything!
There is lots of great seafood to be had on Anglesey and we already have plans to go back when the puffins arrive, and enjoy more mussels, lobster and fish- I just hope we can get back into the cute cottage.
