Brown food is tasty food. Today I've made a kick Brown food is tasty food.

Today I've made a kick ass panang curry. It involved deliveries from @hello_oriental and @thaifoodonlineuk for ingredients but it was worth it (coriander root still eludes me though). Tasted just like ones I've had in restaurants here and in Thailand. A teeny holiday on a plate!

I made flatbread to go with it, and keep with the brown theme, because I'm out of rice and also sick of it this week!

Pudding is a slice, no actually more of a wedge, of malt loaf.
Made this a week or so ago when I was off work and cunningly popped half in the freezer.

Recipes from two excellent books:
📚 Baan by Kay Plunkett Hogge
📚 Christmas Chronicles by Nigel Slater

Delicious end to the weekend 😋

Thanks @drydrinker and @gimber_drink for my prize. Thanks @drydrinker and @gimber_drink for my prize. I love ginger so can't wait to try this. Soda water is on the shopping list and I'm off to the Gimber website to look at non alc cocktail ideas 🍸🍸.

I think it will make it's way into bakes as well - watch this space ☺️.

Happy weekend folks. May your drinks be dry and delicious!

Extreme cheese close up. Mont d'Or for tea tonig Extreme cheese close up.

Mont d'Or for tea tonight. With leftovers from cheese school, pork pies and scotch eggs. Winter picnic!

Now the big question: to bake or not to bake the cheese? 🤷‍♀️

Bought at @thecourtyarddairy last week. God bless postal cheese!
🧀🍎🧀✏️ Learning material 🍎✏️ J 🧀🍎🧀✏️ Learning material 🍎✏️

Just preparing my learning material for session two of my Cheese Academy L1 course.

Actually these are for the next two weeks - second pic shows tonight's selection.

Last week was great. Patrick is a great tutor and it's a lovely group of twelve so we all get to join in.

We are also pairing drinks tonight, so at Pat's suggestion I have Lushcombe sparkling rhubarb and a ginger kombucha as an alternative to wine. Can't wait to see how they work. Oh and an apple to palate cleanse - a trick I learned at the @internationalcheeseawards 💃.

PS -If this wasn't enough I have a whole Mont d'Or aka best cheese ever - for tea tomorrow night. It's mainly cream and milk in my veins these days 😜
Did a huge order from @farmhousebiscuitsltd at Chr Did a huge order from @farmhousebiscuitsltd at Christmas and because I'm an idiot/ selfless gifter (you decide) I only got myself one thing. And because I'm an big idiot I didn't open them until now. These savory cranberry and seed biscuits are just perfect with goats cheese and za'atar.

Need to find a local supplier otherwise I'll be ordering a crateful 😂.

Solid 10/10 if I do say so myself!

Am off work later this month and have a list of new bakes to try. Does anyone have a solid hot cross bun recipe they can recommend?

Weekend reading ahead of starting my level 1 @cheese_academy course on Monday. I also need to go into their cheese library and take a look around.

So excited for this course - hopefully I won't get exam stress like I did in my younger years!

This is my weekend sorted - hope you're all up to something nice too 😀

🥯🥯Bagels🥯🥯 This week's breads (7,8,9 🥯🥯Bagels🥯🥯

This week's breads (7,8,9 this year) are bagels, walnut & fig loaf and foccacia.
Decided to do tonnes so I don't have to do any next weekend!

Let's talk bagels. They're alright, my first attempt, id say 6.5/10. But I wanted them to be awesome. Where'd I go wrong? They're a bit flat even though I lifted from water bath very carefully.

Also I'd say the poke-a-hole method is better than the smoosh-the-ends method!

I used Felicity Cloake's recipe because I'd seen someone here say it was their go-to. I want to try again but make it better to be worth the faff. Tips?

Also made my first cake of the year - Nigella's Clementine cake - with some disappointing tangerines. It's super zingy!

Bread #6 of the year is our lady Nigella of Lawson Bread #6 of the year is our lady Nigella of Lawson Manor's sandwich loaf.

Ooh let me tell you this is floofy inside! I'm freezing loaves in slices so we can just pull out what we need. Andrew cut this into 12 chunky slices plus a leftover crust for us to nibble. It's soft, it's fluffy, it's delicious. Definitely going into my bread making rotation. Can wait to make a toastie with it later this week. And of course a fish finger butty - with butter *and* tartare sauce 🥰 🥪

(Bread #5 was white/rye/wholemeal grainy rolls which are also in the freezer so we can mix and match. It's winter, we are going pretty hard on bread!)

Made with Shipton Mill flour which TBH I'm obsessed with at the moment!
